I'm often asked if I can point people in the direction of primary maths resources and blogs. This page provides a few starting points.
Blogs
- Simon Gregg's lovely class blog features accounts of activities undertaken by his Year 4 class. Look at posts labelled maths - examples include 'Cuisenaire rod equations' and 'Pictures of cubes 1'. Simon also has an excellent reflective blog followinglearning.blogspot.fr.
- Michael Tidd is a deputy headteacher of a primary and nursery school. He has a particular interest in Curriculum and Assessment in primary education. He blogs at michaelt1979.wordpress.com. Examples of posts relevant to maths include 'Stop teaching thousands' and 'Key Instant Recall Facts for Mathematics'.
- Andrew Chadwick is a primary school teacher who writes reflections at mrchadwickblogs.blogspot.co.uk. His posts, for example his write up of #mathsconf4, are useful for primary teachers wanting to find out about the latest policies and practices.
- Alan Parr has been teaching maths for over 50 years. He's had numerous roles including a local authority adviser, an inspector and a question-setter for KS2 SATs. In his blog established1962.wordpress.com he describes and reflects on primary maths activities such as 'Polo Squares' and 'Anna's Cards'. The lovely post 'The Best Question I Ever Asked' is well worth a read.
- Chris T is a Year 3 teacher involved in Shanghai mastery research. He blogs at glosteacherblog.weebly.com. His posts include 'Maths Textbook Training', 'Maths Apps' and 'Getting to grips with Shanghai's mastery of mathematics'.
- Nick Hart is a primary school teacher and a senior leader. His blog 'This is my classroom' is a record of what happens in his classroom, particularly in the teaching of maths and English. Posts include 'How can a child catch up to learn times tables in one term?' and 'Four add three is equal to two add something'.
- Clare Sealy is a primary headteacher who writes the lovely blog primarytimery.com. She enjoys maths and often writes about it, for example in her posts 'Fractious Fractions' and 'Hooray for an Array!'.

Enrichment
The Mathematical Association runs an annual Primary Maths Challenge and First Mathematical Challenge for children in Years 5/6 and Years 3/4 respectively.
MEI have a wonderful app called Sumaze Primary which I can't recommend enough. It's great for 4 - 7 year olds.
Leanne Shaw's website Maths Problem Solving includes a number of primary level problem solving resources.
For more enrichment ideas, including information about in-school speakers and puzzle days, see my post 'Enrichment'.
If you know of any good primary maths blogs or resources that I should feature here, please let me know by emailing resourceaholic@gmail.com. I've never taught primary maths but will do my best to help primary teachers find support.
Thanks, Jo!
